Duties And responsibilities: Dermatologists diagnose and treat more than 3,000 different diseases. These diseases include skin cancer, eczema, acne, psoriasis, and nail infections.

Salary: A 2012 Medscape poll reports that the median income for dermatologists in the United States is $283,000, with a range of $100,000 to $500,000.

Education

All dermatologists must complete a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree before they are able to practice. Students must then enter a special dermatology program that includes a residency. Those with academic or research ambitions may eventually pursue additional doctoral degrees.
